This lecture is one of a series of five lectures that will focus on the shared history of the Jewish and First Nations communities. These online lectures are hosted by the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies at the Sydney Jewish Museum.

This week’s lecture will focus on the notion of justice in the context of Aboriginal/Jewish partnerships throughout history.

The topic of justice overlaps with all four previous sessions of this short course. Justice creates a space for us to share our stories. Justice for First Nations people must include the issue of land, and it involves a restoration of identity such as culture, language and connection to family and community. Justice in this country also involves truth telling and an honest reflection on more shameful chapters of our history with a view to preventing continued injustice into the future. There can be no reconciliation without truth and justice. Through a genuine commitment to justice, we can all help to create a more fair and equal society.
