Product Description
Life for Jews started to deteriorate in Tilsit, East Prussia around 1933. By 1936 the streets started to be occupied by Nazis driving around in trucks, many of them carrying revolvers. The Jewish school he attended was completely burnt down. His grandfather’s department store was seized.
A letter arrived from Canberra, Australia dated 28th July, 1938 offering them a landing permit to enter Australia. After a great deal of planning and bribery they left Tilsit by train. Their arrival in Sydney on the 28th June 1939 was a gift from God and beginning of a new life.
