Ever wondered about the Jewish festival of Chanukah? What do the candles represent and what is a dreidel? Candles, dreidels and even fried foods are all important parts of the Jewish festival of lights, Chanukah! This year Chanukah, which is celebrated over 8 nights, will begin in late November.
The Sydney Jewish Museum invites your primary students to a complimentary live and interactive Chanukah workshop, facilitated by a Museum Educator. This 45-minute online program will introduce students to the traditions and symbolism associated with this important festival.
DURING THE WORKSHOP, STUDENTS WILL:
1. Discover what Chanukah is and why it is celebrated
2. Learn what foods are traditionally eaten and why
3. See and uncover the meaning of lighting candles
4. Engage in a craft activity to make a dreidel
YOU WILL NEED:
1. An A4 piece of paper
2. A pair of scissors
3. A pencil
