“One of the most stunningly beautiful movies you’ll see all year.” – Miami Herald

“…gripping period drama offers a fresh, intelligent cinematic approach.” — Variety

“…a powerful and beautifully made film.” — Indiewire

1945 brilliantly captures the tension and unease during a pivotal moment in European history, just after the end of World War II and before the introduction of nationalisation and Communism. Award-winning Hungarian director Ferenc Török presents a social tableau of his home country that unfolds over one sweltering summer’s day using minimal dialogue, gorgeous black-and-white cinematography and a sparse, melancholy score by Tibor Szemzö. Building quietly to a climax that packs an unexpected punch, 1945 explores the notions of collective guilt, ethical dilemmas informed by fear, the burden of memory, and unprocessed trauma.
