2-hour program Workshop and Holocaust Survivor Speaker
About the program:
In today’s diverse and sometimes divided world, the Sydney Jewish Museum’s Ethics and Ending Othering program encourages primary students to think about what it means to be an inclusive and respectful member of the Australian community. Through age-appropriate stories and historical examples — including from the Holocaust — students explore how prejudice, discrimination and ‘othering’ can affect individuals and communities.
This workshop supports learning outcomes in the NSW History and Civics and Citizenship syllabuses by helping students:
- Recognise the importance of diversity and shared values in modern Australia
- Develop empathy and ethical understanding
- Explore how individuals and groups can make positive contributions to their community
Students will be encouraged to reflect on their own choices and actions, and to consider how they can help build a fairer and more inclusive society. Content can be adapted to meet the needs of different year groups or specific focus areas.
This year, the Sydney Jewish Museum is embarking on a redevelopment project, which will enable us to significantly expand the exhibitions and programs we deliver, and to welcome many more visitors, teachers and school groups. From 2025, we will continue to deliver our quality, impactful and curriculum-linked educational programs at the Museum for school groups. We will offer program bookings between 10am and 1pm. Where possible, we will try to accommodate programs outside of these times. We will also be offering hybrid online and in-museum programs to help meet your needs.
