Securing the Future — The Role of the Foundation

For many of you, your connection to the Sydney Jewish Museum is personal through the time you give, the people you meet, and the stories you help bring to life.

I was reminded of this recently when I sat in on a tour with a Catholic school group. I left feeling deeply moved and, unexpectedly, full of hope.

I watched students, only a year older than my eldest daughter, listening with real attention. They asked thoughtful questions, engaged with empathy, and leaned into stories that are not always easy to hear. One moment in particular stayed with me. A young girl was so touched by hearing Mimi Wise share her story that she took off her necklace and gave it to her. When Mimi gently told her she didn’t need to give something so personal, the girl insisted. I think she wanted to hold onto that moment because the story had impacted her so deeply.

I couldn’t hold back the tears. But more than that, I felt a real sense of awe at what is happening at our Museum every day.

We are planting seeds. Powerful ones.

Moments like this are why I believe so strongly in the importance of what we are building for the future.

The Museum’s Foundation was established following the 2018 Capital Appeal to help secure that future. Providing ongoing, sustainable support for the work that happens here every day. While the building creates the space, it is the Foundation that helps ensure the stories, education and impact continue within it.

Many people support the Museum in different ways. For volunteers, that is often through your time, your care, and the role you play in bringing the Museum to life for others. For some, it also includes contributing to the Foundation, either during your lifetime or as part of what you choose to leave behind.

Both are powerful. Both ensure that this work continues.

The Foundation exists so that the stories you help tell today will still be told tomorrow and for generations to come.

Leaving a bequest in your will or donating to our Foundation, today, can help secure the Museum’s future. If you are already doing this, I would love to thank you. If this is something you are considering, please feel free to reach out so we can discuss it further.

Warmly,
Lauren
