SJM Centre for Education Against Antisemitism

A major initiative forming part of the SJM redevelopment program is the creation the Centre for Education Against Antisemitism (SJM-CEA).

SJM-CEA will significantly expand the Museum’s capacity to deliver impactful education that challenges antisemitism, strengthens social cohesion and equips Australians with the knowledge to identify and respond to prejudice.

Supported by a joint $5.2 million investment from the Federal and NSW governments, SJM-CEA represents a major commitment to education as one of the most effective tools for addressing intolerance and fostering understanding.

As a nationally recognised leader in Holocaust education, anti-racism and social cohesion, SJM has experienced unprecedented demand for its programs since October 2023. Schools, universities, educators, government agencies and corporate organisations are increasingly seeking evidence-based learning experiences that help participants understand the causes and consequences of antisemitism and other forms of hatred.

The SJM-CEA will enable SJM to meet this growing demand through expanded educational programming, new learning environments and enhanced outreach initiatives delivered both onsite and beyond SJM’s walls.

Integrated within the Museum’s redevelopment, SJM-CEA will include new galleries and dedicated exhibition spaces exploring contemporary antisemitism, providing visitors with opportunities to engage critically with the issues shaping Australian society today. These spaces will support meaningful learning experiences that encourage reflection, dialogue and action.

Through the SJM-CEA, the Museum will:

• Expand education programs for school, tertiary and community audiences
• Provide professional learning opportunities for educators
• Deliver training for government, corporate and community organisations
• Increase access to contemporary resources on antisemitism and social cohesion
• Extend the Museum’s educational reach nationally

The establishment of SJM-CEA strengthens the Sydney Jewish Museum’s mission to educate future generations about the dangers of prejudice and the importance of respect, inclusion and belonging.

Alongside celebrating Jewish life, culture and contribution, the SJM-CEA will play a vital role in building understanding and empowering communities to stand against antisemitism, racism and hatred in all its forms.
