About the program:

In today’s diverse and sometimes divided world, the Sydney Jewish Museum’s Ethics and Ending Othering program encourages primary students to think about what it means to be an inclusive and respectful member of the Australian community. Through age-appropriate stories and historical examples — including from the Holocaust — students explore how prejudice, discrimination and ‘othering’ can affect individuals and communities.

This workshop supports learning outcomes in the NSW History and Civics and Citizenship syllabuses by helping students:

  • Recognise the importance of diversity and shared values in modern Australia
  • Develop empathy and ethical understanding
  • Explore how individuals and groups can make positive contributions to their community

Students will be encouraged to reflect on their own choices and actions, and to consider how they can help build a fairer and more inclusive society. Content can be adapted to meet the needs of different year groups or specific focus areas.
