Kuba Enoch posthumously awarded Order of Australia Medal

The Sydney Jewish Museum is proud to announce that Holocaust survivor Kuba Enoch has been recognised posthumously with a Medal of the Order of Australia 2022 for his service to the community through education.

Kuba was born in Krakow, Poland, in 1926. During the Holocaust, he was incarcerated in the Krakow Ghetto, Plaszow concentration camp, Ostrowiec, Auschwitz and Buchenwald. Following liberation from Buchenwald, Kuba was amongst 300 young survivors taken by the Red Cross to recover in Switzerland.

In 1948, he arrived in Australia to begin his new life.

Even as a Museum guide in his later years, Kuba’s optimism or his humanity were never dulled by his past. With four children and eleven grandchildren, Kuba insisted only that life is well lived, in remembrance of those who were denied such a privilege.

“They tried to eradicate all the Jewish people in Europe… We stand here today as proud Jews. Hitler did not win. We will continue to flourish.”

Kuba was a volunteer at the Sydney Jewish Museum from 2011, right up until his passing in 2021.
