Spotlight on Human Rights in 2020: The Media

Spotlight on Human Rights in 2020: The Media

Monday 10 August

Tickets $15

This online talk marks the second of a series of five talks which aim to take a deep dive into the question of ‘what is human rights?’ and the big human rights topics that we face in Australia in 2020; healthracism, and the media.

In this talk, we will hear from Australia Director at Human Rights Watch Elaine Pearson, Producer of ABC’s ‘You Can’t Ask That’ Kirk Docker, and Bus Stop Films Co-Founder Genevieve Clay-Smith.

Elaine, Kirk and Genevieve will discuss the media’s role in human rights and some of the regulatory issues facing the media industry today. They will also explore the role social media plays and how we ‘consume’ media related to human rights.

Join us at our other human rights talks:

3 August: What is Human Rights?

17 August: Racism and Human Rights

24 August: Health and Human Rights

31 August: Looking Back, Pushing Forward

Please note, we use Zoom for all our webinars. We strive to make these as accessible as possible. If you use a screen reader, or would benefit from reading closed captions, please get in touch with us at

This session is NESA-accredited professional development.
