When considering Holocaust literature, there is a need for critical analysis of such representations of the past. With special attention given to Maus, the Once series and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, this session will explore the use of Holocaust-related literature in the classroom.
In addition to the need to ensure that material is analytically discussed, we will also consider what is age appropriate, what other considerations might teachers give to the choice of subject matter, and how best can they use that subject matter to impart an understanding of the historical period that underpins these fictionalised perspectives and interpretations of the modern world.
