Online Commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day 2022

Thursday 27 January
7.30pm AEDT

FREE

The members of the Australian Holocaust Museum Alliance have come together for this nationwide, virtual commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day and the Liberation of Auschwitz.

Themed Everlasting Light, this event is a reminder to Australians that it is up to the young generation to keep the light of remembrance alive by ensuring discrimination, intolerance, injustice and racial vilification cease to exist.

As a key part of this event, Holocaust survivors will participate in a moving candle lighting ceremony to ensure that the memory of the 6 million Jewish people murdered in the Holocaust, is never forgotten.

Joining a moving speech by Holocaust survivor Yvonne Engelman OAM, other notable speakers at the event include:

  • United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres
  • Dr Lois Peeler AM, 2017 Australian of the Year (VIC)
  • Sue Hampel OAM, International chair of the Education Working Group for IHRA
