Product Description
Transcending the bounds of an almost medieval, male-dominated Polish shtetl, a teenage Hannah Kaufman emigrates to Palestine, where she learns Hebrew, English and the art of manual labour. When World War II breaks out, she joins the British Army and, as a nurse, sees service in both Egypt and Italy.
After the war, Hannah, now Hannah Lemberg, having married a British soldier she’d met in Italy, builds her life and together with Max, raises a family in England and later Australia.
Although keeping a traditional Jewish home, Hannah is concerned with women’s rights and world peace, particularly Nuclear Disarmament.
