The Long Search for Home is just that. It is an epic story of the Greiss and the Rosenzweig families spanning the period 1875-1941, culminating in the creation of the Rosen family. This book traces the growing family’s arc until present time.

Ellis Rosen has researched both sides of his family and documented their journeys from Russia to China, and eventually to Australia. The reader really gets a sense of the monumental distances and journeys that the characters faced, and these descriptions are backed up by beautiful period photographs.

Life in Australia is revealed by the narrative of his parents’ lives, and more particularly by descriptions of his brothers and his own childhood and adolescence.  One can easily imagine growing up in Sydney where playing sport was central to the development of a young man. This, together with descriptions of social life, school and holidays, form the quilt that enveloped ‘the Rosen boys’, providing them with the nourishment to go on and forge the lives that are recounted in the final section of the book.
