First I need to tell you that this document is one of the most moving and significant works I have ever read. I will not go on and on inflating the number of books I have read in 64 years (thousands). I have certainly read Anne Frank in more than one version and scores of diaries and works on the Holocaust.

This book is unique.

In my own humble opinion it is even more meaningful than Anne Frank’s work because it is longer and filled with many more observations about so many more aspects of real life. It is viewed by a boy growing from 14-16 in the very heart of adolescence, that most creative and questioning period of our lives.

His observations on family, the war, society, commerce, the media, politics, specific world leaders, the parallels he draws between WWII and the symbolic war that goes on inside the Stacke household, his attitude towards the despicable Mr. Stacke but showing how much he really loved and respected him, are the perfect example of the mixed emotions of a young boy in hiding and the world we live in.
