Dr Moritz Epple is Professor of History of Science at Goethe University in Frankfurt/Main. He studied Physics, Mathematics and Philosophy at the universities of Tübingen, Copenhagen and London and received his PhD in mathematics from Tübingen University.
He then turned to research and teaching in the history of mathematics and science in Mainz, Stuttgart and Frankfurt.
Epple’s work focuses on the development of mathematics since the 18th century. His publications address topics in the history of topology and mathematical physics, in the history of philosophical views on mathematics, and in the history of mathematics in Nazi Germany. Since 2006, he has been the head of the exhibition project Transcending Tradition: Jewish Mathematicians in German-Speaking Academic Culture – current exhibition at the Museum.
