Madre Israel – The Bride of the North. What does this port city mean to Jews and Hellenes? Once known as The Mother of Israel for its dominant Jewish community, Thessalonike has had a Hellenic heart since its founding by Cassander, general of Alexander the Great, 23 centuries ago. Virtually since its creation, the two peoples have shared the city, sharing its history, its culture and its identity.
Guest of honour: Mr Giannis Boutaris – Mayor of Thessalonike
Speaker: Panayotis Diamantis – History teacher
