Dr Farias will examine the history and origins of the five Jewish communities of India, namely the Cochini (the Kerala) Jews, the Bene Israel, the Baghdadi Jews; the B’nei Menashe (Mizo Jews) and the Telegu Jews (Bene Ephraim) of Hyderabad, with special focus on their life and culture in the midst of a diverse multi-cultural and multi-linguistic nation.
Dr Farias is a historian from Mumbai currently working on a book comparing the Indian Jewish and Indian Christian Communities. This will be an interesting exposé of two Semitic communities living in harmony in India, knowledgeable about their roots and proud of their heritage.
