Lunchtime Lecture – Confronting spaces: Age-appropriate tours of the Museum

Wednesday 12 June
1.15pm

Sensitivity when teaching genocide is always important, but it is especially required in those situations in which we are leading younger students through the Museum. In this Lunchtime Lecture, Education Officers Simon Holloway and Morgan Southwick will explore the issues surrounding age-appropriate tours, and will consider how we might best exemplify the approach of “Safely In; Safely Out”.

With specific relation to the Sydney Jewish Museum’s displays, they will answer questions like:

How does one speak to children about the artefacts in the Industrial Killing showcase, or negotiate the space around the Justice in Australia section? How does one teach about traumatic issues without triggering trauma, or creating it?
