Dr Solomon Bard’s life story is rich with adventure, hardship, loss and love. This amazing life is the subject of Dan Biederman’s work at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Dan’s work-in-progress, titled The Last Renaissance Man: A Live Documentary, features a live orchestra paired with the sounds of historical radio broadcasts, sound effects and video to create a unique musical journey through the life of Dr Bard.
Dan will discuss the challenges of rigorous research and artistic interpretation involved in his work. The lecture will feature the reconstructed P.O.W. oil drum cello as referenced in Dr Bard’s memoir, as well as video footage from the recent performance of The Last Renaissance Man: P.O.W. Years with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellows.
Dr Solomon Bard was a volunteer at the Sydney Jewish Museum from 1995 to 2014.
“War veteran, husband, father, musician, archaeologist, doctor, orchestral conductor, author and academic. These are just some of Solomon Bard’s achievements in 98 extraordinary years.” Josh Dye of the Sydney Morning Herald.
