Lunchtime Lecture – Conversation with a survivor: Lena Goldstein OAM
Wednesday 13th December
Lena Goldstein and Dr Ari Lander
Dr Ari Lander will be interviewing Lena Goldstein as part of our series: Conversation with a Survivor. Lena, is the oldest Holocaust survivor speaking at the Sydney Jewish Museum.
Helena (nee Midler) Goldstein was born in Lublin Poland in January 1919. Both her parents were murdered in Treblinka and one of her brothers fell in the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. Her other brother, along with his wife and their two day old infant daughter, were murdered by the gentiles paid to smuggle them out of the ghetto. Lena survived in hiding ‘on the Aryan side’, and was only liberated by the Russian army in January 1945.
“Every time I speak there’s a moment where I can’t talk any more. I don’t know why. I always thought that if you talk so many times about something it becomes normal. But it doesn’t.” – Lena Goldstein
