The remarkable journey that George Freuden has undertaken from the horrors of the Holocaust in Hungary is made all the more fascinating by the fact that George is such a charismatic raconteur. His ability to recount the details of his life’s experiences, painful as well as humorous and uplifting is totally engaging.
An avid skier, George became a committed member of the skiing fraternity in Australia, devoting much of his life to the improvement of safety practices and dissemination of information to benefit others. He helped take Ski Patrol to the next level and represented Australia at international congresses. He was instrumental in enhancing Australia’s skiing reputation overseas and used his organisational skills in a variety of capacities. Australia, his adopted country, is all the more richer for it!
The unexpected events and adventures that unfold steer the reader to recognise a life which has become the fulfilment of the metaphor “Off Piste”. It has had the highs and lows of that extreme sport, the exhilaration of finding the way, combined with the freedom of choosing one’s own path. George’s story reflects a life well-lived and realised, a successful career, civic and family life his ultimate reward.
