After nibbles, this network will feature a lecture from Dr Paul Kiem, former President of the History Teachers’ Association of Australia. Dr Kiem will be discussing his research on the Holocaust links in the life of Australian Educator (and founder of the History Teachers’ Association of NSW) Renee Erdos.
A former secondary history teacher and President of the History Teachers’ Association of Australia, Paul Kiem recently retired as Professional Officer for the History Teachers’ Association of NSW. In 2005 he attended Yad Vashem’s Holocaust Seminar and in 2012 was a Visiting Scholar at the University of British Columbia’s Centre for the Study of Historical Consciousness. In 2015 he was awarded a PhD from the University of Technology, Sydney for A Bohemian’s Journey to the Western Front, a study of the itinerant artist Vasco Loureiro. A long-time editor of Teaching History, Paul is also the author of several popular history texts and, for many years, has presented on a range of history and education topics throughout Australian and overseas. Currently an associate lecturer in history education at the University of Sydney, Paul is working on a number of historical biographies.
