Rituals, Symbols & Behaviour: Navigating the NSW HSC Studies of Religion Syllabus

N/A

Wednesday 8 March 2017

1:00pm

In a world of mistrust of the Other, the Studies of Religion syllabus is designed to foster an appreciation of the impact that religion has on society, its influence on human behavior and interaction within culture.  It enables students who live in an often confusing multifaith and multicultural society to progress from a broad understanding of religious traditions to specific studies within these traditions, and provides a focus on religious expression in Australia and its place within the global community.

While the syllabus also covers major religions, such as, Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism and Islam, our task is to help students (many of whom have had no contact with Judaism or Jewish people), develop empathy and acceptance of the diversity within Judaism and an understanding of the foundation principles that define the faith.

This workshop is designed to give you context and a better understanding of the Studies of Religion syllabus through active training on the Ground Floor of the Museum.

Sandy Hollis is the Community and Professional Education officer at the Sydney Jewish Museum, Vice Chairperson of the NSW Studies of Religion Association and co-author of the leading Studies of Religion HSC textbook.  Sandy serves as a consultant on associated committees and is active in Interfaith Dialogue.
