On 23 July 1944, the entire Jewish population of Rhodes and Kos, were shipped to Piraeus On 3 August, they were deported to Auschwitz where 1,604 were murdered in the death camp and 151 survived.

This moving commemoration at the Sydney Jewish will reflect on the near extinction of one of the oldest Jewish communities during the Holocaust: the Romaniote and Sephardic Jews of Greece.

Keynote speaker Vic Alhadeff OAM will share his family’s story on Rhodes. Julia Sussman CEO of Youth HEAR, who recently visited Rhodes, will reflect on the hope and aspirations of the community today. 

This event is held in partnership between the Sydney Jewish Museum, Youth HEAR, the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies and the Consulate General of Greece in Sydney.
