THIS EVENT IS FULLY BOOKED

The Museum will be hosting the book launch for The Tattooist of Auschwitz, a heart-wrenching, illuminating and unforgettable novel by Heather Morris based on an extraordinary true story.

Several years ago Heather met Lale who wanted to share his story. For the next four years, Heather was entrusted with his memories and also has official documents to back up his story.

Lale was the tattooist at Auschwitz and held a relatively privileged position in the camp. The story is not just his, but Gita’s as well – the woman he met and fell in love with in the concentration camp and who, incredibly, he found after the war and married.

Lotte Weiss, a Holocaust survivor also knew Lale from pre-war Bratislava. They were shocked to see one other in the camp and she describes how as he tattooed her number while they spoke under their breath so as not to raise the suspicion of the SS guard. Lotte will be in attendance at the launch.

Hugh Riminton, writer, journalist and TV presenter will launch the book.
