Remember Me is a unique opportunity to hear a personal account of the Holocaust by a Survivor. Our February speaker is Yvonne Engelman.
“I was born in Dovhe, Czechoslovakia on the 09th October 1927. When I was 14 ½ my family and I were sent on cattle wagons to Auschwitz. Upon arrival, I was sent to a gas chamber, but by some miracle, the gas did not work. We were locked in that chamber all night and marched out in the morning.
As the allies advanced we were sent on a death march. It was winter at the time, raining and cold. We had no shoes, no warm clothing and no hair. If you couldn’t keep up, you were taken aside and shot.
I promise to pass my message to future generations to ensure that this will never happen again. We have an obligation to keep the memory of the 6 million alive, and to ensure that those who were murdered did not die in vain.” – Yvonne Engelman
