Between 1927 and 1939 approximately 1,300 German and Austrian Jews found safe haven in Manila. The rescue effort was spear-headed by US high commissioner to the Philippines Paul V. McNutt, Philippine president Manuel L. Quezon and the Frieder brothers, a family of Jewish-American cigar manufacturers living in Manila. This lecture explores the extraordinary example of humanitarianism in the face of Nazi brutality.
