Collecting in the time of a pandemic

These times we have found ourselves in have changed the way communities are practicing their Judaism and how they partake in ritual traditions.

These times have forced everyone to adapt in a time of crisis.

The Sydney Jewish Museum’s curators are hoping to capture this unique moment in time, where the outbreak of COVID-19 has impacted everyone in a significant way. the Museum’s curators are calling for the Jewish community to share images and material related to what people are doing now, or have been doing in the last couple of months.

How is Judaism being practiced during this time?

How are communities observing Jewish festivals and Shabbat?

How are they celebrating weddings, births, brit milah?

How are they grieving and mourning?

Collecting photographs, images, items and memorabilia relating to this period will help the Museum’s visitors, in years to come, to understand the experiences that have continued to shape Sydney’s Jewish community.
